The SHADE GARDEN is an informal space located beside the front porch . A mix of sun and shade without excessive dampness provides the right conditions for shrubs such as hydrangea (H.hortensia "Nikko Blue"), viburnum ( v. burkwoodii) and spiraea ( S. japonica) as well as hosta varieties, grasses and native holly and daylillies.
Step off the front porch, turn to the right and follow the pea gravel path to an arbor with tete-a-tete benches where you can sit a while. Try out the paths toward two other stone benches and enjoy the area from a new perspective. Then walk toward the small gate to the next garden area.
