Although the term "common rooms" is used to describe the spaces at the Inn that all guests may use, they are anything but common!

Approach Abbington Green from the expansive, furnished FRONT PORCH. A love seat, cushioned chairs and rockers,
as well as reading lamps make this a welcoming and comfortable place to relax, read or chat with other guests. An
antique sleigh near the double front doors is always filled with seasonal decoration and flowers.

Step through the double front doors and you are in the FOYER. It's a lovely room rather than a hallway, and the
ceilings are 10' high throughout. The architect, Richard Sharp Smith often made these entry rooms into important spaces
that can also be for entertaining. The foyer is furnished with a rose colored Bokhara rug, a mahogany serpentine front desk, an African mahogany open-arm chair and an unusual burl walnut antique table. |

Next, step into the PARLOR. It's a very bright room and the place where you will find the first of many original mantels
with working fireplaces. Window treatments on the 10'wide windows, rugs and upholstery fabrics in shades of deep green,
navy and dark reds create a feeling of a British Gentleman's Club. Sit awhile in the large club chairs. Or curl up on
the antique settee or wingback chair with a book by Jane Austen or a Sherlock Holmes mystery. Watch television to catch
the weather forecast before your day of adventure around Asheville or see one of the movies available in our video collection.

The LIVING ROOM is a lovely and comfortable room that measures 30'x17', has a ten foot high boxed ceiling, and has two
sets of large windows. The room faces south and west, so it's always bright, particularly in the afternoon. A large,
original brick fireplace, a 1902 "upright grand" piano, chess and lots of books are found here - many about the British
Isles and gardens. ( Of course!) A comfortable sofa and chairs beckon you to sit and relax awhile.

Our DINING ROOM is a special place for guests because our candlelight breakfast is served here each day. The room has
two large dining tables. You'll find a hutch, lovely glass and crystal, and many
framed English pictures. The stunning original, quarter sawn oak high mantel with mirror adds to the sense of comfort here.
