The Shade Garden

The SHADE GARDEN is an informal space located beside the front porch . A mix of sun and shade without excessive dampness provides the right conditions for shrubs such as hydrangea (H.hortensia “Nikko Blue”), viburnum ( v. burkwoodii) and spiraea (S. japonica) as well as hosta varieties, grasses and native holly and daylillies.

Step off the front porch, turn to the right and follow the pea gravel path to an arbor with tete-a-tete benches where you can sit a while. Try out the paths toward two other stone benches and enjoy the area from a new perspective. Then walk toward the small gate to the next garden area.
