Nick’s Notes 2.1.2015 – Amber’s Story

Amber’s Story

I was driving home from work one day on highway 95 in Boca Raton Florida, and noticed other cars with their break light on.  There was a small puppy in the middle of the highway, so I pulled over to the side of the road and called her to me.  She came running, frightened and shaking into my arms.  I put her on the floor in the passenger side of the car.

She was so small, and her head looked too big for her body.  I took her home to show Steve what I found.  When we opened the car door she leaned over and threw up…..she got car sick.  Steve and I both thought the same thing…………….we don’t need a third dog.

I took her to our vet to see if she had a micro chip to identify who she belonged to.  There was no chip, no collar or tag, but just a scared 4 month old puppy that was in good shape.  We tried to find out who she belonged to and in the meantime named her Amber for “Amber Alert.”  She loved playing with Cassie (Boxer) and Chance (Golden Retriever) in our yard and they looked after her too.  Chance would tolerate her climbing and chewing on him and Cassie would play with her for hours.  We knew then Amber had found her new home and she would stay.

Little did we know at the time we would end up losing Cassie and Chance a month later….only 10 days apart.  First, Cassie developed a brain tumor, went blind in one eye and started having seizures.  Ten days later Chance started to moan when he would lay down.  The vets determined cancer in his abdomen.  Sad and heartbroken, we went home from the vet to be greeted by happy and lovable Amber.  I truly believe things happen for a reason in life.  That’s why I found Amber…………….she was given to us to help us through a sad time for both of us.

But there is a very happy ending for all of us………….Amber in now 4 years old and grew into a beautiful girl, no longer gets car sick, and is always happy and loveable.

She knows a few tricks and literally gives a hug.  For those of you who know me, I like giving hugs too…..so I had to teach her.   She is great when she meets guests at Abbington Green, and a few guests have even taken her for walks.  She has adapted to the Inn lifestyle and likes to play when other dogs come to stay at the Bed and Breakfast in our  Pet Friendly Suites.  She is known as “Lady Amber Abbington.”  Everyone who meets her instantly falls in love with her…………and when you meet her you will see why.  Amber is a part of our family in Asheville at Abbington Green Bed and Breakfast Inn.

All the best…Nick
