The Chartreuse Garden
The CHARTREUSE GARDEN is a small formal space surrounded by trellis fences. It is named for the variety of yellow foliage, variegated foliage, yellow and white flowers in this garden.
Enter this garden through the small door from the Shade Garden and Step onto the pea gravel path. You’ll see a raised, formal planting bed in the center with brickwork accents.
Shrubs include dwarf English boxwood (Buxus sempervirens suffruticosa), dwarf holly and juniper (J. nana aurea) . Perennials including varieties of spurge (Euphorbia), Lady’s Mantle (Alchemilla mollis), Solomon’s Seal (Pol ygonatum odoratum “Variegatum”) and variegated phlox (P. paniculata “Norah Leigh”) are planted along the perimeter in raised beds.
A pineapple fountain is planted with water iris (Iris pseudacorus), while teak benches offer places for you to rest and observe the soothing color and variety.
Our Chartreuse Garden is lovely in daylight. But in the Summer it can be a treat in the evening too. The yellow foliage and white flowers make this space uniquely bright in the evening. Soft lighting along the walks adds to the glow of the garden.
